Discount Motorcycle Tires

Maybe you have searched online for some extra chrome to make your ride a beauty. It is quite common to run across advertisements for discount motorcycle tires.

Usually, these advertisements give you a deal of a lifetime. If you are an unlucky person like me, you found this ad a few weeks after you had new tires put on at your local shop. When I realized that the “good deal” from the shop was at least double of what I would pay for the better deal online I got really mad.

After thinking of a few nasty words I swore to myself that I would never let the fat bald guys at the local shop con me into a bad deal again.

Then I got thinking. There are some things you should think about too before you purchase discount motorcycle tires.

First off, do you know how to change and fit a bike tire? If you don’t know how to do this, you could but yourself in a totally embarrassing circumstance. Imagine purchasing your discount tires and then having to go to your shop to have them mounted. It is likely that your service charge will be more because you brought in your own tires.

If you know how to fit motorcycle tires yourself, then go right ahead and make that purchase!

For those that don’t know how to mount and fit motorcycle tires, it really isn’t that difficult to learn how to do it. The hardest part is getting the tire off the rim. After riding around, the bead, or seal, is well established. However, you can purchase a bead breaking set for less than $200.

It isn’t that hard to find suggestions and instructions on how to fit a tire. You can easily find other methods of breaking the bead without even buying a breaking set, if you really wanted to. But be careful, because some of them can be harmful.

If you do plan on fitting your discount tires yourself, be careful with the brake discs. If you damage them, they are expensive.

Once you have the bead broken, with a bit of strength (pushing and tugging) you should be able to mount your tires. Just make sure the bead is properly positioned. You will probably also need to get your tires balanced.

Just remember that the idea with purchasing discount motorcycle tires is to save money. Be careful that you know how to fit your tire correctly before you test run anything on your bike.
